Infant care specialists usually rest when the baby is asleep. They often sleep in the same room as the baby or very close by, typically within 3-5 feet, to ensure they can respond promptly. Families are usually expected to provide a bed, sofa bed, or mattress for the night nanny to use. Despite sleeping, infant care specialists are trained to wake up quickly to tend to the baby's needs, such as feeding, changing, or soothing.

Caregivers are expected to notify parents as soon as possible, ideally with at least 2 hours' notice before their shift starts. Parents can use Nestling to secure another available caregiver as a backup.
